How to prepare for your Laser Hair Removal appointment

Congrats! You booked your laser hair removal appointment! You’ll be seeing those results in no time. Now, let’s get you prepared for that first appointment.

First and foremost, don’t be nervous. Whether you’ve had laser hair removal before or this is your first time experiencing it, there’s nothing to worry about. Promise! Our providers will help you feel comfortable and relaxed throughout your treatment.

Now that you’re calm and ready, let’s prep the skin for best results:

-Within 48 hours of your appointment, please shave the area receiving treatment. A close shave ensures we are targeting the hair follicle beneath the skin, and not just the exposed growth. Also, when hair is visible, you might experience a few more “zings” during treatment that can be a bit uncomfortable.

-Please don’t exfoliate the skin in the treatment area day of appointment. Exfoliated skin is in a more sensitive state and can result in some redness and irritation for some.

-Skip the deodorants and lotions. Why? We’re going to cleanse the skin and use an alcohol to remove all oil so save your products!

-Wear accessible clothing if you prefer. Or, we do have robes you can change into before treatment.

What to expect during your treatment:

Your aesthetician will bring you into the treatment room and review your goals, concerns, and questions. You’ll then have a few minutes to yourself to change (if needed), use any cleansing wipes, and get comfortable on the treatment bed. Your aesthetician will return, cleanse the skin with an alcohol wipe, and explain how the laser will feel. This is the part most people get nervous about - but remember, there’s nothing to be scared of! Our laser is designed to enter and exit the skin very quickly which means you will feel minimum discomfort - most clients describe the laser as a “warm blanket” sensation and a pain scale of 1 out of 5 (5 being the most painful).

Treatment times vary - but most are extremely quick! Laser hair on the face, underarms, bikini, and Brazilian area are done within 5-10 minutes. Larger areas such as the back and full legs take a little bit more time.

What to do after your treatment:

Yay! You did it!

As soon as you exit the treatment room, we will get you booked for your next appointment. Laser hair removal takes time and several appointments to get the hair clearance we’re striving for. Each area of the body grows hair at different speeds so your next appointment can be anywhere from 4-8 weeks later because we want to target the hair growth at a specific stage of growth. Our aestheticians and Client Coordinator will help schedule you for your next appointment.

For the first 24 hours post treatment, please stay out of the heat. This includes hot showers/baths, hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, and sun exposure. We want to be gentle with the skin following a laser treatment so no exfoliating or using harsh/active ingredients for 48-72 hours as well. Lastly, always protect with SPF when going outside if the treatment area is visible.

Between appointments, please feel free to shave if that is what you prefer. We will ask that you do not tweeze or wax the hair as this will affect your hair growth and the stage you’ll be in at your next appointment.

Our laser is safe for all skin types all year long! Dealing with pesky hair growth, painful waxing, or irritating razor bumps doesn’t have to be the only option anymore.

We’re here to help!
